2005 Tucson General Election Result Maps

Turnout was low, even for an off-year City election, at 22.93% of registered voters. It was especially below normal on the Eastside, the Republican part of the city that usually turns out in droves. As this map shows, the Democrats’ excellent Get Out The Vote efforts and Vote By Mail efforts swamped the Republicans’ feeble efforts. The Southside and Westside did not come out to vote either, but the especially strong turnout in the central city, especially the determined Ward 6 voters who wanted to elect a councilmember they supported for the first time in eight years.

Note that most of the precincts with the heaviest turnout are also under the flight path for Davis-Monthan combat jets.
Considering that the D-M noise & safety issues were a huge campaign issue, and Fred Ronstadt in particular took major hits from both Demo candidates for his high-handed dismissal of his constituents’ concerns on noise, health, and property values, could this be the beginnings of a voter revolt to make some major changes at D-M?

Support for both Trasoff & Uhlich was very heavy in the central city and southside, areas that for the most part had very light turnout. The heavy Ward 6 turnout, combined with substantial inroads well into the Eastside, made the difference for both candidates.
Nina did about 4% better than Karin because of lower Republican support for Fred Ronstadt than for Kathleen Dunbar. Approximately 10% of Dunbar voters did not vote for Fred.
