Art + Activism Celebration a Huge Success

Wow! What an unforgettable evening. On Saturday, August 13, nearly 300 people came out to support the Farley campaign, connect with one another, and set out a progressive agenda for Tucson’s future using their left and right brains.

The spirit in the room was electric. People from 9 months to 95 years old, from all different backgrounds, joined together in an effort to preserve what we love about Tucson and to choose a future filled with hope as we solve our problems together.

Each person brought a photo or object that represented Tucson to them. Our volunteer artists photographed them with their object, then printed out a copy of the photo. The participants then spent hours collaging that image on the large round tablecloths with other images, drawings, and stories as they ate some terrific food and engaged in enlightening conversations with other Friends o’ Farley.

The physical result was ten richly layered mandalas reflecting a community vision for Tucson using words and images. They are beautiful and enticing. You can see them on display in our new Campaign Headquarters (2555 E. 1st Street) during our Grand Opening (8:30am-1:00pm, Saturday, August 20), or anytime when you volunteer. I’ll be placing them in the Ward 6 council office after I am elected as a guide to future decisionmaking.

You can see photos from that night on our page dedicated to the event.
